Ordinarily, I use a vise grips or a channel locks as a backup when attaching screw terminals on Calrod heat elements.

The wire welded to the screw terminals is quite fragile and will bend or break if too much torque is applied to the screw. And in the case of the heating element, I like to be sure the screw has a good amount of torque because the terminal will be required to carry a large amperage load.
